Visual Studio Enterprise

Visual Studio Enterprise is the top edition of Microsoft's development environment, licensed per named user rather than per machine — one developer may install it on as many devices as they work on. The subscription is the larger part of what is bought: alongside the IDE it carries development and test licences for most Microsoft server software, an Azure credit, and access to the Windows and Office release channels for testing.

The edition question is usually the commercial one. Professional covers the IDE for teams that do not need the enterprise testing and architecture tooling; Enterprise adds it along with the subscriber benefits that many organisations are already paying for separately elsewhere.
