Windows 11 Pro Upgrade

The Pro upgrade unlocks the capabilities a managed estate depends on: domain and Entra ID join, Group Policy, BitLocker drive encryption, Windows Update for Business and Remote Desktop host. Devices bought with a Home edition preinstalled cannot be enrolled into most management platforms until they are upgraded.

Where devices will be managed with Intune, the Pro edition is effectively a prerequisite rather than an optional extra.
